"Wicca has been around since before Christianity- it just
goes without saying, that we're the only correct religion!"

There were no Wiccan Neanderthals with crudely carven tree trunk altars or wooly mammoth-fat candles in their caves. There weren't any people around the Renaissance bopping around to New Age music and flashing 3" pentacle earrings, either.

Wicca was thrust forth as a religion in the 1940s, by Gerald Gardner. Its validity to the public eye is fairly young, as far as religions go, but it is recognised as a religion worldwide. Few of its components are original; 99% has been borrowed and pieced together from 'Old Religions'- meaning almost every pagan religion under the sun can be found in it somewhere. Although there are strict traditions that require worship of only a goddess and a god, most Wiccans now are much more lenient with their beliefs. Egyptian, Phoenician, Greek, Native American, and Nordic deities are just a drop in the ocean of thousands (hundreds of thousands?) that Wiccans have incorporated into their personal lives, beliefs, and worship. Many ancient rites and customs have been assimilated, as well.

Christianity was around for a thousand or so years before Wicca came on the scene. On the other hand, Goddess-worshipping societies and other Pagan religions have been around virtually since the beginning of recorded time (obviously, since the Big Three hadn't been founded yet).

In short; No, your great great great great great great grandmother was not the first Wiccan in America. Neither did she author the Rede with High Priestess Whoshewhatsit of Momewrath Sparkle Grove in the 1700s. If you still believe this delusion, please make an appointment with your nearest trusted psychiatric professional.
