Imbolc [im-bolk] or Imbolg [im-bowlg], the Festival of Brigid, is held on or around February 2nd. This sabbat honours Mother Earth as winter wanes and she is about to give birth to the new growing season. It is a celebration of childhood, the nearing of Spring, and the youth of all nature.

It is on Imbolc that all candles for use in the next year are made and blessed, and the time that Brigid's crosses are made from wheat or straw to hang in the home for protection. Seeds for planting in the spring are annointed and kept on the altar until Ostara.

At this time, poetry, music, stories, and art are shared with friends and family- as products of a fertile mind. Silk ribbons can be placed outside overnight, for Brigid to bless, to be used in healing. Imbolc is also an ideal time for (self)dedications or (self)initiations to the Goddess.
