It is important to prepare yourself for your Sabbat ritual, just as it is important to prepare your ritual space. On Ostara, before you begin, take a cleansing bath. Make sure that the clothes you plan to wear are clean, as well. Meditate to align and prepare your energies and mind to the holiday and spiritual work you will be doing.
Decorate your altar using a pink, green, or yellow pastel altar cloth, the same colours of ribbons, dyed eggs, fresh flowers, or any combination. You can also use whichever objects represent Spring to you personally. Prepare your altar with your supplies for casting your circle and your ritual.
Cast your circle. Beginning with the East, invoke the Watchtowers (or Spirits, Goddesses, whatever you usually invoke for the directions), lighting a pink votive for each corner as you do, and ring your bell once after each invocation.
East:
“Warrioress of the Spring, Watchtowers of the East, and Element of Air, I call upon your wisdom and summon your energy, for clear communication with the spiritual being within myself. I ask for guidance in using compassion, understanding, and love in all my associations with others.
Here do I invoke Light and Air, to bless this circle and bring the breath of life within it.”
South:
“O Goddess of Spring, Watchtowers of the South and Element of Fire, I call upon your wisdom and summon your energy, for accepting the balance of others, and in all aspects of my life.
Here do I invoke Light and Fire, to bless this circle and bring warmth within it.”
West:
“Spirit of Spring, Watchtowers of the West and Element of Water, I call upon your wisdom and summon your energy, to bring daily sight into my life so that I may see my spiritual imperfections. I ask for your strength in adjusting my behaviour, and increasing and enlightenment of my spirit.
Here do I invoke Light and Water, to bless this circle, and cleanse it and all within it.”
North:
“Maiden Fae of Spring, Watchtowers of the North and Element of Earth, I call upon your wisdom and summon your energy and love, to witness this celebration of divine renewal and to bless me with compassion toward all other beings.
Here do I invoke Light and Earth, to bless this circle, and to build strength within it.”
The chakra appropriate to concentrate on for the Spring Equinox is the heart chakra, and the colour for this time of the Wheel is green. If you wish to use this in your ritual, for meditation purposes, think of things such as green ocean waters, a lush green field, sprouting fauna, or other things along these lines that appeal to you at this time.
As you begin your ritual, close your eyes and imagine a white light coming forth from your solar plexus and rising toward the top center of your circle (this is establishing what is called a cone of power). Imagine this light slowly making its way clockwise around the circle, gradually quickening to a comfortable speed, and bringing your energies and awareness to a peak- the light eventually spreading to encompass the ‘walls’ of your circle.
“I stand at the gate between the living and the dead, on this night when daylight and darkness are equal. I stand here to witness the rebirth of the Goddess, Mother Earth, the waxing Lady of the Moon- an essential transition in the Wheel of the Year.
The Goddess wishes to bestow the gift of knowledge to those who will accept it. These wise words are Her gift: ‘There is a time for every purpose in the Universe. Now is the time to sow that which will be reaped come Fall. Now is the time of the conception and rebirth of Mother Earth’s bounty, keeping the Wheel turning.’ I plant these seeds of child and harvest, each dependent upon one another. These seeds, material, spiritual, and symbolic, ready for the coming seasons.”
Transfer soil from your cauldron, to the flower pot. As you plant your seeds, think about them as if they were your goals- sown for growth and future reaping.
“On this day of Ostara, a time of planting and beginning, I plant these seeds. May they bring me plentiful fruits and bounties in all ways. So mote it be.”
Dismiss the Watchtowers and banish your circle. Have wine and honey cakes (or juice and bread).
